RR10 LEAGUE

The RR10 league is a series of races organised by running clubs in south-west Hampshire for their members. The races are held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer. Entry is free. All of the races are 4-5 miles off-road. The standard of runners varies from 5-minute milers to 12+ minute milers so, however fast you are, there will always be someone to run with. If you aren't a member of one of the organising clubs, go to one of their websites (links below) and join up so that you can be part of the fun!

RACE 6 - 20TH JUNE - 7.30PM - MANOR FARM COUNTRY PARK

Hedge End Running Club has the pleasure of hosting Race #6 of the 2018 RR10 series. This will take place on Wednesday the 20th of June at Manor Farm Country Park, which is on the outskirts of Hedge End, just off Junction 8 of the M27. The nearest postcode is SO31 1BH. The drop out club is New Forest Runners.

ROUTE: This year we have made a new route for you all. As well as giving you an improved, safer route, we now avoid the road crossing, a new gate, and a very rutted part of the old route!!! The route is 4.3 miles long with all the usually mix of hills and rough ground.

SAFETY: The course is mainly dry at the moment, although one section in the woods is quite muddy and trail shoes are recommended. Spikes are not suitable. The dry weather in the Spring has exposed more tree roots than normal, which we will try and mark wherever possible. There are narrow sections through the woods and a very uneven section along a bridleway where extra care should be taken.

PARKING: As ever, we expect parking to be tight, so please car share as much as possible. There will be no parking charges for the evening, so there is no need to buy a parking ticket. Please do not park on the access road outside the Country Park entrance. We plan to fill the car parks closest to the entrance first and work back towards the start. This will hopefully help avoid congestion with cars attempting to leave the park being blocked by runners arriving. Please follow the Car Park marshals' instructions and be aware of traffic while walking along the road to the start area.

General Notes:

  • The start is 19:30 prompt. Please allow time to arrive, park and get to the start.
  • We do not have exclusive access to the Country Park, which is popular with dog walkers, cyclists, and other users, so please be considerate to the local residents. If the weather is fine, there may also be families picnicking in the Country Park.
  • We have been promised that the Ladies and Gents toilets in Barnfield will be left unlocked for the race.
  • The Start and Finish will be in Barnfield
  • The route is a mixture of grass, gravel paths, trails and bridleways, with muddy sections through fields and copses and along the river bank. Tree roots, ruts, large stones, low branches, posts, steps, bridges and a cheeky incline towards the end are some of our interesting features. These will be indicated by marshals where possible.
  • If you have a car, please leave the Country Park by 9.10pm. the entrance gate for vehicles is locked at 9.15pm
  • There will be water available at the end of the race. However, in an effort to reduce our environmental impact, it would be good if you could bring your own drink or reusable cup. Please also take any litter with yourself to keep the park clean.

We look forward to seeing you all then. Rob & Sheryl

    RACE COUNT TABLE
Table showing the number of RR10s everyone has run from 1995 onwards. Let me know if there are any duplicates/mistakes. [webmaster@rr10.org.uk - Alan Tulip]
Vet categories of V40, V50 and so on are included for clubs which have provided the data. A runner's category is fixed for the season based on their age on the date of the first race.
Personal music players with earphones are not allowed during RR10 races. It is very important that marshalls' instructions can be heard at all times, and some runners have complained about being blocked on narrow parts of a course by runners unaware that someone was coming up behind them.

    AGE LIMITS
In order to be covered by UK Athletics public liability insurance and to gain a UKA permit for each race, we have to conform to the rules laid down by UKA. Rules 507 and 508 specify that only Under-17s and older can run in Cross Country races of the normal RR10 distance (up to 8K). This means that all men and women competing must have been at least 15 on August 31st of the year prior to the series (so 31 August 2004 for the 2005 series). Note that the age limits for men and women are now the same.
EXCEPTION - With the agreement of all the clubs, the following modification to the restriction above has been agreed:
Members of the participating clubs who are aged 15 on the day of the race, but were not 15 on 31 August of the previous year, may also run in RR10 league races, but only with the explicit permission of their clubs or coaches.

    CLUB MEMBERS ONLY
RR10 races are for members of the participating clubs only. Again for insurance reasons, we have to insist on this. It is also unfair that non-members should turn up and run a race for free that is being organised by these clubs. Some clubs are in favour of not giving finishing position tickets to runners not wearing club vests. This will not be enforced, but we do very strongly urge all runners to run in their club vests.

Please send any comments/corrections to Alan Tulip at webmaster@rr10.org.uk. I am still interested in any results from years prior to 1995 that I can add to this page, even if only the title winners for that year.
